The IEMS Examinations Syllabus is the first Syllabus in Sri
Lanka approved by the Society of Teachers of Speech & Drama
(STSD): U.K.
With the IEMS Examination Syllabus, it is possible to devise
a series of structured examinations to match the exact needs,
and to assess the development, of every individual at any
stage or level of attainment. Above all, the examinations
combine enjoyable, simulating task, with opportunities for
self expression and work that develops the candidates own
knowledge and tastes.
The Spoken English Syllabus has been designed to simulate
and assess increasing fluency in the use of Spoken English
in everyday situations. Some subjects, such as effective speaking,
are designed to foster skills beyond the use of language which
are applicable to a wide variety of activities - travel, interviews,
conferences and meetings among them.
The Written English Syllabus is designed for candidates who
have a basic knowledge of Spoken English but need to improve
their reading and writing skills. Other subjects are, specifically
concerned with performance skills and artistic appreciation.
| The Speaking of Verse &
Prose examinations, for example, require an understanding
of proper voice production and grade by grade, the techniques
involved in lifting a passage from the page and "making
it live" in the listener's ear. These examinations
also introduce candidates to a wide range of English Literature
as, to lesser extent, do the examinations in Effective
Speaking. |
 |
The Solo Acting examinations are for those who enjoy drama
and wish to test their performance skills against an exacting
but sympathetic standard. Choral Speaking examinations help
to develop control of voice, widen the range of expression,
overcome shyness and self-consciousness. Speech and Drama
examinations also introduce candidates to a wide range of
English Literature.
